“One of our biggest sources of anxiety is when you haven’t been on the field for a couple days, that maybe you go out there and you don’t make the plays,” Manager Terry Francona said. “Everybody did their job.”

After the postponement of the first game of the series Monday and Tuesday due to inclement weather, the Cleveland Guardians beat the Chicago White Sox in game two during today’s doubleheader with no potential inclement weather in sight.

The first pitch of today’s second game was at 5:41 p.m. instead of the original start time of 6:10 p.m., with temperatures at 49 degrees and cloudy skies, much more favorable than yesterday’s chilly and snowy conditions.

Earlier in the day, the Guardians announced that three players were placed on the injured list.

The Guardians started off the first inning with two double hits from Kwan and Ramirez and one run.

The Guardians starting pitcher for today’s second game was RHP Triston McKenzie. McKenzie pitched until the fifth inning, where he allowed the lone run for the White Sox. McKenzie had 80 total pitches, 40 balls, and 40 strikes, including four strikeouts. Receiving the win for the Guardians (1-1), McKenzie’s ERA for today’s game was 2.38.

Gabriel Arias, Columbus Clippers shortstop, was pulled up to make his Major League Debut for the Guardians as the 29th man. He had one RBI in the first game, went 1-4 from the plate and scored a run for Cleveland in the fourth inning of the second game.

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Jimmy Lambert was taken out of the game with two outs in the fourth with five hits allowed and five strikes, leading to an ERA of 5.40. Lambert had 73 pitches for the day. The White Sox had a total of six pitchers for the evening.

Steven Kwan did not start in the first game, but went 1-4 at the plate, running home once from Ramirez’s RBI in the first during the second game.

The fan favorite, Jose Ramirez was today’s designated hitter, as the fans across the stadium were cheering “MVP” after recording grand slam number two for the season during the first game and went 1-3 from the plate, recorded one RBI, and walked once during the second game.

McKenzie told reporters during postgame, “I’m happy every day that I get to come in and just watch him [Ramirez] play because I feel like every day, I’m amazed at just how good he is.”

The Guardians earned their second home win this season, after winning their first against the Chicago White Sox in game one of today’s doubleheader 11-1. “One of our biggest sources of anxiety is when you haven’t been on the field for a couple days, that maybe you go out there and you don’t make the plays,” Manager Terry Francona said. “Everybody did their job.”

Although not a packed stadium, the crowd of 9,196 still had plenty of cheers and excitement at Progressive Field.

After the two wins from today’s doubleheader, the Guardians are atop of the American League Central Division and have a 6-5 record for the season.

What’s Next?

The Cleveland Guardians look to continue their two-game winning streak and sweep the Chicago White Sox for the final game of the series tomorrow, April 21, with the first pitch at 1:10 p.m., if weather permits.
